Chris Bosh to the Lakers?

by DJ on May 22, 2010

According to several media reports, Chris Bosh has given a list of 5 teams he would like to play for to the Toronto Raptors. Why is this important?

According to the reports, the teams on the list are (in no particular order):

  • Toronto Raptors
  • Chicago Bulls
  • Miami Heat
  • New York Knicks
  • Los Angeles Lakers

Why would Bosh give such a list to the Raptors? Well, he has said he is not closed to returning to Toronto, but if he were to leave, it would be via Sign and Trade. He gave the list to Toronto so they can start looking into Sign and Trade possibilities.

There are two interesting facts when I look at this list. One, all of the non-Toronto teams, except one, have cap space, and two, all of the teams, except one, are in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is in the Eastern Conference. Think about this for a moment. If you are Toronto and you are about to trade a cornerstone, are you going to trade him to a team you are competing with in the Eastern Conference? Are you going to trade him for Cap Space? The smart GM thing to do would be to get him as far away as possible. Think of the Shaq trades. Lakers (West) to Miami (East). Miami (East) to Phoenix (West). Phoenix (West) to Cleveland (East). All the teams that trade Shaq are doing so to the opposite conference.

Are those Bynum for Bosh rumors true? We will see soon.
