Lakers-Houston Opener

by DJ on August 3, 2010

According to reports, the Lakers will open the NBA season on October 26 against the Houston Rockets, while the Heat will open the season in Boston against the Celtics.

While Miami-Boston makes sense as an opener (the Magic should otherwise have been in consideration), does Houston really deserve to be the season kick off opener? The Lakers are obviously the class of the Western Conference and deserve to be featured. The rest of the Western Conference is all bunched up and I think I can understand the NBA thought process (Houston is the biggest city, thus able to provide the highest ratings). However I think a better opponent would have been the Portland Trailblazers or the Oklahoma City Thunder, who would be more likely better foes and should draw more attention from the NBA for their place in the future of the game.
